“These leaders exemplify the operations excellence we strive for at Dow,” said Peter Holicki, Dow senior vice president of Operations. “As deserving recipients of the STEP Award they serve as role models both within Dow and our communities and inspire others in their quest for higher levels of excellence.”

Showcasing the stories of women leaders is paramount to attracting more female talent. In that spirit, The Manufacturing Institute’s STEP Ahead Awards recognize women and their achievements at all levels of manufacturing, from the factory floor to the corporate office. This national honor identifies and celebrates the best-of-the-best women in the manufacturing industry and furthers the mentorship and support of the next generation of female talent to pursue manufacturing careers.

“These 130 women are the faces of exciting careers in manufacturing,” said Jennifer McNelly, executive director, The Manufacturing Institute. “We chose to honor these women because the each made significant achievements in manufacturing through positive impact on their company and the industry as a whole.“

The STEP Ahead Awards are part of the larger STEP Ahead initiative, launched to examine and promote the role of women in the manufacturing industry through recognition, research, and leadership for attracting, advancing, and retaining strong female talent.

A recent survey from Deloitte and The Manufacturing Institute found that 80 percent of American manufacturing companies have a moderate to severe shortage of available, qualified workers.

Nominated by peers, company officials or professional firms, STEP Ahead honorees are selected based on their achievements in manufacturing and contributions to their company. The annual distinction recognizes 100 Honorees and 30 Emerging Leaders for their outstanding work as manufacturers, employees, and leaders in their communities.

Started in 2012, the STEP Ahead Award is a national distinction, celebrating chosen Honorees and Emerging Leaders, building their leadership skills and strengthening their networks. Launched in 2015, STEP Ahead launched the “emerging leaders” awards–honoring women in the industry who are currently employed in the manufacturing industry that have already made significant contributions and excelled early in their career.
